notes: Some modern lists declare Big Grove as a separate settlement, and the HPM roll lists them separately in January 1848, but contemporary sources unanimously use the name to refer to Alpheus Cutler's followers interchangeably with "Silver Creek Branch" and "Cutler's Camp." His settlement was in the largest grove inland of the bluffs. This IS NOT the same as what would later be called Big Grove, then Oakland, several miles to the Northeast.
