description: Apostle Lyman E. Johnson drowned in the Mississippi at Prairie du Chien in 1856. Henry Stebbins first visited the Ackerly family in 1863. Apostle Reuben Newkirk baptized the Ackerly family in 1863. They had been members of the old church and had returned from Utah to the states. The branch was organized on August 15, 1865, but may have fallen into disorganization. Henry A Stebbins preached there in 1869; there was not much interest but within two years a branch was organized. The Ackerlys stayed until the opening of the colony in Lamoni where they moved in 1871. The branch disorganized in 1871. Members: John, Ether, Elbert, Ellen, Samuel, Charlotte, Sarah Jane, Helen, and Elizabeth Ackerly, Matilda and Mary Hendricks, Elizabeth and Sarah Jane O’Neil, George C. and Maintima Houck, Alanson and Lucy P. Hewitt.?
