description: Steven Mack Jr, nephew of Lucy Mack Smith settled the valley in 1838 building a home at the junction of the Rock and Pecatonica Rivers at what is now Rockton. It was called Macktown. Elisha Groves visited the area of the Pecatonica River Valley in 1840 where he visited the Mack family settlement and organized branches at Vienna and Big Grove. Henry A. Stebbins preached in the area (where his mother lived), and organized the branch in 1874. In 1875 W. W. Blair went on mission to the same area during the cold winter and preached to the settlers. The branch did not grow and on September 12, 1879 Joseph F. McDowell and Charles Wicks reorganized the branch at the home of James Leland. Henry Stebbins later ministered in the branch.?
