description: Consisted of scattered Mormon settlers about halfway between Nauvoo and Quincy. It was organized as a stake-branch in 1840 with a presidency (Isaac Morley) and bishopric (Gardner Snow), but when outlying stakes were demoted in May 1841, it came under the jurisdiction of the Nauvoo High Council. In late 1843, it was reorganized as a stake, now with a high council, and they decided to build a new town, which they soon named Yelrome (now Tioga). It was rarely called a stake. However, it did function much like other stake-branches, with a full presidency and bishopric, along with a high council (by 1843).
