description: James J. Strang was ordained by Joseph Smith to develop a gathering site in Wisconsin. They chose the White River as their stake of Zion. Here they began to build a temple and on that hill Sally Shumway was ordained a high priest by Gladden Bishop in 1848. The town was abandoned as church headquarters when Beaver Island was settled. Strang died in Voree in 1856?
