description: Columbus area, formerly the Mt. Hope Stake, had been merged into the New Liberty Branch in 1843. The local members decided to form their own branch again in 1844, but this was disputed by the leadership of Liberty Branch. This dispute was appealed to the Nauvoo Stake High Council.
