description:Named after William W. Lane, the regional presiding bishop who was asked to form a settlement for poor saints (mostly British immigrants). President John Griffith, Bishop William W. Lane. August 3rd 1851, Aaron Whittemore replaced Griffith as president. Members included families of William Lane, Aaron Whittemore, Samuel Scoggins, James Pierce, Leo Hawkins, John Griffith, Richard Musgrave. Neither of the sources describe the location of the settlement/branch, but all of the member families appear together in the 1852 Census in the Twelve Mile Grove area (now Harrison County). The branch was reorganized as the William Lane emigration company in June 1852, although some appear to have traveled in the Benjamin Gardner Company.
