description: This branch is identified in the missionary journal of Levi Jackman who passed through with Caleb Baldwin on May 7th, 1835: "We traveled... to the Chariton Ferry where we found some brethren and stayed with one Brother Nichols. [Next day] ...we stayed and held a meeting in the evening. The church in this place is composed of families with fifteen members. They manifest good desires and the Spirit of the Lord was with us. We baptized two, namely A.B. Jackman and Betsy Ann Fossett, and we had a time of rejoicing with them." On May 26th, 1836, Elder George Burkett passed through on his way back to Clay County, recording "We came Shardon Ferry 30 miles to Brother Fassets. Stayed all night." Though the spelling is different, the location is identified as the same. From county historical records, we have discovered that the Chariton Ferry was located at the mouth of the Chariton River, where it meets the Missouri River.?
